A character who lives on your desktop.
DeskMate is a desktop AI companion. She talks with you, notices what you are doing, and can use your computer for you. The models are yours to choose, and your data stays on your Mac.
macOS 14 or newer, Apple silicon.

01
She speaks first.
Nobody has to call her. Boredom, a long silence, or something new on your screen is enough for her to say something, the way a friend in the room would.
- Four levels, from only answering to getting things done on her own.
- Tell her to be quiet for half an hour, and she is.
- She holds back when you are in a meeting or full-screen.

02
She sees your screen and can use your computer.
She looks at the window you are in, and operates the apps you have allowed: reading what is on screen, clicking, typing, choosing menu items. Only the apps you grant, at the level you grant.
- Read-only, operate, or trust, per app.
- Deleting, sending and paying always wait for your click.
- One shortcut stops everything she is doing.

03
She remembers you.
What happened, what is true of you, and how she sees you are kept in three layers, and sorted out while she is idle. Each character has memories of her own, and none are shared.
- Delete any single memory; it is forgotten at once.
- Memories live in a file on your Mac.
- Characters do not know about each other.

04
Your models. Your data.
Bring your own key for a cloud model, or run one on your Mac with Ollama. Speech recognition runs on the device. There is no telemetry, and the privacy page lists every address the app talks to, checked against the code.
- Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and any OpenAI-compatible service.
- Voices from ElevenLabs, MiniMax, Fish Audio and more. Or none: subtitles only.
- No account with us, because there is no us to sign up with.

Another character. Another body.
Make as many characters as you like, each with her own persona, voice and memory. Import any .vrm model, or share a character as a single .deskmate file.
- Open source
- Apache-2.0. The code, the decisions behind it and the privacy audit are all public.
- Built-in avatar
- Mio wears VRoid’s CC0 sample, so you may use her anywhere.
- Made for the Mac
- Lives in the menu bar, with no Dock icon. macOS 14 or newer, Apple silicon.
